Traveling workers, families, adventurers, and staycationers have an exciting new place to stay in Sedro-Woolley. The Kulshan Hotel, which opened in March 2025, is a boutique 49-room hotel with all the modern amenities. It’s already brought a noticeable boost to the city’s travel sphere.

The Kulshan Hotel is owned by Skagit locals Brandon and Kate Atkinson. Sedro-Woolley has only one other hotel, the 40-room Three Rivers Inn, which has been around since at least the mid-’90s. There was also the 1955-founded Skagit Motel, but it was closed in 2023.
“[The owners] saw a need for nice accommodations in Sedro-Woolley and dreamt this into fruition,” says General Manager and Director of Sales Alia Lambert. “We have some substantial companies in the immediate area that have lodging needs…they’re bringing a lot more people into the area.”

Traveling nurses from Sedro-Woolley’s PeaceHealth medical center and potential hires at the nearby Janicki Industries expansion need a flexible, fully-equipped home base, and The Kulshan is a perfect fit.
“The thought process throughout the building was that we wanted it to be accessible for those that were staying longer-term, but we welcome all kinds of guests,” says Lambert.

To accommodate extended stays, each room at The Kulshan has a kitchenette complete with a full-size fridge-freezer, a dishwasher, and a two-burner flattop stove. There’s tons of storage space in the rooms, “so you can unpack your belongings and feel more at home.” The modern design, new appliances, and large bathrooms (with walk-in showers and touch-activated lighted mirrors) add a touch of luxury to these homey lodgings.

There are 12 room types across three floors, ranging from single and double studios to deluxe suites. Some rooms feel like newly-built apartments, with office and living space, separated sleeping areas, and outdoor patios. Some are pet-friendly, and some can sleep up to six guests, perfect for families and sports teams.
Beyond just the rooms, The Kulshan has on-site guest laundry services, a well-equipped fitness room, a Suite Shop stocked with necessities, and 24-hour staff. They serve a complimentary breakfast, which you can choose to eat at a large communal table in their lobby or on their covered outdoor patio.

Since opening, The Kulshan has seen many and varied visitors. Lambert says they were full during their first summer and were still hovering at an impressive 50% capacity during the recent slow season. They’re excited to not only bring these visitors in, but to share what they love about Sedro-Woolley and Skagit County with them. Local artwork is found in the lobby, hallways, and rooms, and information on local restaurants, businesses, and activities is readily available.
“This is a small town, and it’s really important that we partner with the great parts of Sedro-Woolley. My goal here is really to make you want to come back, or extend your stay,” says Lambert. “I can’t even tell you how many guests have extended their stay.”

The Kulshan is a big part of why the Sedro-Woolley City Council was able to give out $73,000 of collected lodging taxes to nine local organizations at the end of 2025. That money will go to promote tourism efforts for 2026.
Lambert looks forward to The Kulshan Hotel becoming widely known and selling out this summer. Even if it’s just for a staycation, we recommend booking a room and enjoying a weekend there, yourself! 807 Trail Rd., Sedro-Woolley, 360.207.1369, thekulshanhotel.com
