Editorial Internships

K & L Media, Inc. offers journalism internships in the areas of visual journalism, marketing/public relations, and news/creative journalism. Our hope is to give students an opportunity to use their unique set of skills and abilities while learning and growing in a fun yet professional environment.

The journalism internship will give interns the opportunity to write on a variety of different topics, as well as experiment with different writing styles. Interns will gain experience writing, researching, and producing an upscale lifestyle magazine. Most importantly, interns will get published in a premier regional magazine walking away with strong editorial clips that they have earned. Working on your own, as well as in the office with the rest of the editorial staff, you will gain valuable experience progressing through the entire editorial process.

Applicants may also be working toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree in English literature, publishing, or creative writing; graduates are also accepted. Optimal candidates commonly have previous experience at school magazines and/or newspapers; have a strong interest in magazine writing; good phone and research skills; and the ability to multi-task. Experience with InDesign, Photoshop, and digital photography are a plus but not required.

The position is unpaid, requires a minimum 3 1/2 months and 15 hours a week between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays. Students fulfilling their internship requirements are encouraged to apply and will be given first priority. K & L Media makes every effort to accommodate work and school schedules. The dates available are as follows:

Fall: 10/1-12/15
Winter: 1/2-3/15
Spring: 4/1-6/15
Summer: 7/1-9/15

Exact internship dates may flex to accommodate student’s schedule

Graphic Design Internships

The graphic design internship will allow for students to use their skills to create original designs, advertisements, promotional materials, and much more. Further, it will open the door for them to practice interfacing with clients, co-workers, and all stakeholders involved in a publishing business, as well as allowing them to publish their work in a regional magazine and on the web, resulting in great clips they can show prospective future employers.

Applicants should be working toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree in graphic design, publishing, or photography. Candidates must have working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, MAC OS, and the ability to multi-task and work with others.
