While upscale dining is on the rise, The Office Tavern stands out as a casual gathering place designed for returning visitors rather than turning tables. Just off Burlington’s Fairhaven Avenue, this 21-and-over establishment captures the easygoing vibe of a neighborhood bar with a polished environment. Since becoming the sole owner of The Office in 2023, Tony Pratt has kept the mission simple: to create a welcoming spot where guests can relax, grab a bite, and stay awhile.

“We want people to come in, have drinks, hang out, and be comfortable,” says Pratt. “We’re not trying to rush anyone out.”

Having taken over the space once occupied by the Varsity Inn, The Office now thrives in a fully renovated building. What started as a simple entrepreneurial project in 2020 was quickly interrupted by COVID-19 restrictions, prompting Pratt and his business partners to shift their plans from a simple clean-up to a full remodel. Drawing on years of experience in the construction industry, Pratt personally handled all the hands-on work himself. A top priority of the renovation was creating a spacious outdoor patio, something the surrounding area lacked, which has since become a popular setting for events and private parties.

Inside, the tavern embraces a playful “office after hours” theme that is displayed throughout the menu and merchandise. Guests can choose from a variety of food and drink options suited to fit a range of tastes and price points, offering something for every occasion. Popular menu items include the Price Buster smash burger and the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, paired with a rotating list of fresh seasonal cocktails and lineup of beers on tap. True to the theme, The Office also offers generous happy hours (a.k.a. “Office Hours”), all-day on Mondays and from 1 to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. They even offer breakfast and brunch from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Beyond the bar, The Office is more than a gathering place—it’s a way for Pratt to give back to the community. A third-generation Skagitonian, he has spent much of his life supporting his neighbors through community service. After serving 30 years as a volunteer firefighter, Pratt now channels that commitment through the Skagit Regional Hospital Foundation. Last year, he joined the board of trustees, building on his ongoing contributions to their Par Tee Classic and Festival of Trees fundraisers.

“Everyone should have quality health care close to home,” he adds. “When I was invited to join the foundation, I jumped at the chance to work with this team.”

That same commitment carries into his business, where Pratt stays actively involved in the daily operations. He is supported by a team of 23 employees, which has included his daughters at times, who all work together to maintain consistent quality and a vibrant atmosphere. Whether it’s a quick happy hour or a long weekend hangout, Pratt hopes every guest leaves with a full belly, good memories, and the desire to return.

“I want this to be the place people stop on their way home from work, meet friends, catch up with their favorite bartender, and this becomes their spot,” he says. 112 N. Cherry St., Burlington, 360.982.2452, theofficetavern.com
