THE SHOP

Wild Fibers in downtown Mount Vernon has been inspiring fiber artists for nearly 15 years. Located next to the historic Lincoln Theatre, the shop is a one-stop destination for everything fiber and fiber-related. Come for supplies and leave with inspiration for your next knitting or crochet project.

THE ATMOSPHERE

The shop itself is visual eye candy, festooned with brightly colored yarns and decorated with beautiful knit sweaters, hats, shawls, scarves, gloves, and socks, all lovingly knitted by the staff. Guests can peruse at their leisure and are encouraged to ask questions. Near the register is a welcoming seating area; in the back, you’ll find a large classroom.

KEY PEOPLE

The owner, Sarah Parker, manages the shop with six part-time employees, all of whom share a love of the fiber arts. Parker learned to knit at the age of seven and professes to have “always been crafty.” She had taken a hiatus from knitting when she visited a hat shop in England. Inside, she saw a woman knitting and remembered how much she enjoyed the craft. About five years later, she opened Wild Fibers.

“When people come into the store, I want them to be inspired,” says Parker. “Maybe they want to learn how to knit or crochet, pick up a new project, or learn a new technique. Whatever level they are at when they come into the store, I always want people to feel welcomed and see this as a place to seek help and ask questions. Knitting is technical, and we want them to be successful.”

WHAT YOU’LL FIND

Wild Fibers offers skeins (yarn ropes) in a variety of colors, price points, and brands, including Mode at Rowan, Sugarplum Circus, and Brooklyn Tweed. You’ll also find tools of the trade, such as single sets of knitting needles, sock rules, kits, magazines, instructional books, and patterns. Select items may also be purchased online.

Instruction begins in the fall, and includes classes for beginners, classes that focus on technique, and classes that revolve around a project, such as making a sweater. The shop participates in two tours: the Puget Sound LYS Tour in May and the Slow Yarn Crawl PNW in the winter. To express gratitude for their 15-year milestone, which comes in 2020, the shop is thanking customers with a new loyalty program.
