One of the prettiest views you may ever have the privilege to look upon can be found in Agassiz, Canada. Endless rows of tulips as far as the eye can see are rooted in the earth, ranging from ruby red to amethyst purple. Mount Cheam is in the background, towering above the lush treeline and caressing the bright blue sky. This is one of those places that brings the phrase “heaven on earth” to life.
This beautiful vista can be found at the Harrison Tulip Festival, which began in 2006 as a purely family-owned business. Since then, they’ve partnered with Onos Greenhouses Ltd., the owners and growers of the hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils on the 109-acre farm. Towards the end of the season, Onos Greenhouses takes the bulbs and sells them in Western Canada and the Northern States. People from as far away as South Asia and Europe have traveled to see this stunning assortment of florals. The sheer amount and array of people who enjoy the florals every year speak to the success and beauty of the farm.

It was recognized at the annual World Tulip Summit in Holland in the fall of 2024. The farm earned the World Tulip Award for “Best Instagrammable Tulip Farm,” rightfully so.
Running for four to five weeks annually in spring, the festival boasts 40 acres of blooms, with over 12 million tulip and double daffodil bulbs. There are 15 double daffodil varieties and over 100 different tulip varieties. Not only is each row the backdrop to the perfect picture, but there are also lots of picture-worthy attractions, from a windmill, multiple swing sets, antique horse carts and tractors, a 1950s convertible, a 1965 Airstream trailer, and raised platforms.

If you’re interested in cutesy knick-knacks and tulip- themed items, the expanded Farm Store is the place for you! Located in a large, picturesque barn, the Farm Store has an item for everybody. Objects from Holland adorn the shelves, and fresh-cut and take-home potted tulip plants are in abundance, plus locally-made tulip-themed sweet treats.
Further along are food trucks, with the cutest flower-themed picnic tables to enjoy your delicious food at. There is also a “secret garden” on the property beside the main field—it feels just like you’ve stepped inside a whimsical fairy tale. With a working waterwheel, four acres of spring blooms are planted alongside towering nut and fruit trees, with lots of grassy pathways to boot. This is one of my favorite parts of the farm, and truly feels magical.

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention additional fun experiences amongst the ‘lips. On select dates, local musicians play while roaming the flowers; there is an opportunity to do sunrise and sunset yoga, and a boutique-making workshop.
The farm is open from April 12 to May 9, seven days a week, and is accessible to all. Handicap parking is available beside the ticket booth on their grass parking lot, which offers around 10 acres of free parking! Check out their website for ticket details and more. 5039 Lougheed Highway, Agassiz, B.C., harrisontulipfest.com
