THE SHOP
Since 2005, Three French Hens has been a Fairhaven mainstay, selling upscale women’s attire, jewelry, handbags, and select fragrances. Located in the stately historical building that once housed Fairhaven’s first bank, both the shop and the wares inside transmit comfort and welcoming elegance. Owner Parul Bhathella describes their philosophy:
“Centering on quality over quantity—each piece is chosen for its craftsmanship, comfort, and longevity. Many pieces are made from natural fabrics including organic cotton, linen, denim, and luxurious cashmere—many proudly made in the USA. We also showcase an array of heirloom-worthy accessories such as handcrafted jewelry and premium leather bags.”

THE ATMOSPHERE
Not only is the space beautiful, with huge windows and high ceilings, it has the unique bonus of having the changing room installed inside an old-timey bank vault. There’s a sense of quiet fun (subdued excitement, even) in the store. The merchandising here is not only gorgeous, it’s quite helpful, with scarves and bags displayed alongside sweaters or wool coats to help you envision a complete outfit. The back features a small room devoted to sleep and resort wear, along with select lingerie.

THE PEOPLE
“My staff is amazing,” Bhathella tells me more than once. She worked originally in the healthcare field and owned another retail venue, Blue Horizon Clothing, before purchasing Three French Hens in 2014. Since then, she’s been using her amazing eye for color and style to help clients grow their wardrobes on a foundation of solid, quality pieces.
As I was photographing the store, long-time client Elga La Pine dropped by to show Bhathella and employee Rose Ironwood how she had styled a recent purchase, showcasing the level of personal care and sincere attention the staff at Three French Hens offer their clients.
“With an understanding that confidence arrives from within, our team is inspired by getting to participate in the personal growth and transformation we see in our clients,” Bhathella say
