A new kind of neighborhood market
A young girl selects her cereal from myriad options above her. She grabs milk from the fridge and pours the desired amount, returning the glass bottle when she finishes. Her mother quickly corrects the young girl’s mistake. The milk, although appropriately returned to the fridge, wasn’t in her own home, but the dairy cooler at a new local business.
Just west of downtown, nestled alongside All About Flowers, awaits Elizabeth Station, a convenience store opened in early March. The uniqueness of Elizabeth Station’s convenience is immediately apparent. It’s a neighborhood market, beer market, cereal bar, deli, wine specialty shop and a place to grab a pint from one of their five taps. The taps are often filled with hard-to-find beers and occasionally local treats.
Weekly events have already become a regularity at Elizabeth Station. Every Monday is deemed Sour Monday, when a new sour beer is tapped. Wednesday night is Brewery Night, where a featured brewery’s beers are tapped for the evening. Avid regulars can even get a personalized beer stein stored in a lock box.
Something new is always arriving at Elizabeth Station. Facebook is the key to obtaining information about the happenings at the market. Events, new products and delicious displays of food created by their employee, Gus, can easily tempt the common profile visitor to visit their location. This corner market is a fresh spin on the concept that lets customers slow down and enjoy the convenience.
