It’s that time of the year again, where the bitter cold is driving everyone inside, only to sit around and watch Netflix. Fortunately, the freezing weather isn’t a death sentence to fun, and I’m going to tell you about some of my favorite winter activities to do when the temperature drops. So grab your jackets and hot cocoa, because our first activity takes us out into the cold.

Ski or Snowboard Mt. Baker

I know, I know. Everybody thinks of going to Mt. Baker during the winter time. But how could I leave one of the all around best winter activities off my list? Skiing or snowboarding is a fantastic way to spend a frigid day, whether it be by yourself or surrounded by family and friends. And lucky for us, we happen to have one of the best resorts in the country right in our backyard! Mt. Baker has fun for every skill level, from beginners to experts, so you’ll be to have a fantastic time. You can order lift tickets here.

Walk Through the Park

Snow just touched down in Bellingham this past week, and one of my favorite activities in the snow is to walk around the local parks. Nothing is quite as relaxing as having a hot drink in your hand, and being surrounded by fresh snowfall. There’s also a chance that you see some dogs running around in the snow, so that’s an added bonus.

Board Games with Friends

So being outside in the cold isn’t your thing, that’s okay too, there are plenty of fun indoor activities for the winter months. One of my favorites is getting together with some of my friends and playing board or card games. Monopoly and Cards Against Humanity are two of my favorites, but it doesn’t matter what games you play. The only thing that matters is that you are surrounded by people you care about. It is the holiday season, after all.

Relax with a Cup of Tea and a Book

All the other activities seem well and good, but there are some days where you the cold just makes you want to do, well nothing. That’s okay too, because one of the all time classic winter activities is to just relax with a cup of tea (or any other hot drink) and a good book. Netflix could be a tempting alternative, but nothing relaxes more than sitting and reading a book cover to cover. Everyone has their favorite genre (I like Autobiographies and Graphic Novels) so you’ll be sure to find something you enjoy. So sit back, relax, and dive right it in.
