The Magic of Chemistry: Silver Gelatin Lith Printing Workshop

In this workshop, you will learn how to create prints with unique textures, contrast and colors unlike any other darkroom printing method. Lith printing requires patience and a willingness to embrace unexpected results. Using specialized lith developers, we will work with currently available papers as well as several vintage papers. You will also explore similar but different printing approaches including second-pass lith and copper bleaching. The workshop will include a primer on digital image preparation and working with digital negatives and so both digital and film photographers are welcome. Digital photographers will want to bring a laptop equipped with Photoshop for image preparation. Students should bring a variety of images to work with. Lith printing works especially well with strong, simple compositions regardless of subject matter. Materials included with the workshop fee include transparent film for digital negatives and a selection of photographic paper.
