SUMMARY:Richard's Studio-Open House
DESCRIPTION:How many people truly get to follow their dream?\nI did.\nI’ve always lived near a body of water and have always been a beachcomber.\nMy dream was to figure out how to make a living off the beach.\nI did.\nI moved to San Juan Island in 1980 and immediately began scouring the beaches for wild looking wood\, and there was plenty. But what to do with it?\nThe answer came in the person of Mike Moss\, a woodcraft artist\, fellow beachcomber\, and creator of driftwood bandsaw boxes which he marketed at the Pike Place Market.\nWe met. He saw my driftwood stash\, heard my dream and taught me the basics of bandsaw box making. With a modicum of creativity and skill plus a whole lotta marketing experience\, I launched False Bay Boxes in 1982. In the proceeding years I sold every piece that was put into the marketplace.\nWe moved to Whatcom County in 1987 and kept making boxes until about 8 years ago when I “retired” from the art and craft scene.\nMy hiatus is over. I needed a break. It was perfect.\nI am living my dream with new inspiration.\nThe False Bay Boxes brand has been retired and my work will now be under my own name. My focus is on creating large\, live-edge\, sculptural boxes carved in outrageous wood for the high-end woodcraft and art market. More moderate sized/priced pieces will only be available during the holidays.\nTo wit: I am hosting my first ever Studio Open House to reintroduce myself to the local art community. This special event takes place the first Saturday in December\, the 7th\, from 10am-5pm. Newly created pieces will be for sale. Refreshments will be served all day long. \nIt is a joy to follow your bliss. I did\, and am joyful. \nRichard Nevels

SUMMARY:Chaos\, Climate and Creation: an evening with Michael Meade
DESCRIPTION:Join renowned author\, mythologist and storyteller Michael Meade for an evening of myths of renewal\, tales of transformation\, and a resounding call to find unity and wholeness in this time of conflict and confusion. \nAs the chaos in the world increases\, most ideas of the future become fatalistic. Yet\, the situation only seems “hopeless” when viewed from the narrow logic of a collapsing world view. Old ways of seeing the world are blocking more vital paths of imagination\, vision and healing. \nThe point is not simply evolution or progress\, rather there needs to be a collective rite of passage that transforms our world view. Transformation is required to move us from despair and overwhelm to awakening and imagination. We are either on the way to transformation or on the road to greater tragedy. \nThe agony of the earth calls for each of us to defeat the growing alienation and isolation of life in order to become more human and be more present. The issue is not the pretension of “saving the planet\,” but rather finding deeper ways of serving the earth. \nThis world\, despite all its troubles\, remains a place of ongoing creation. Yet\, creation can only work through the souls of those alive at a given time. What we learn from mythic stories and imagination is how our human nature can make us part of the ground of being and the vital pulse of the living world. \n“Climate change and eco-degradation can become the context in which the core values of humanity become redeemed rather than lost.” – Michael Meade \nTICKETS:\n$15 General / $10 Student\nDoors open at 6:30 pm \nDATE:\nThursday\, December 5\, 2019\n7:00 – 9:00 pm \nLOCATION:\nBellingham Unitarian Fellowship\n1207 Ellsworth St.\nBellingham\, WA 98225 \nCONTACT INFO:\nFor more information see our web links or contact Mosaic Multicultural Foundation at: info@mosaicvoices.org or 206-935-3665. \nLINKS:\nTicket link: https://www.mosaicvoices.org/shop/#!/Chaos-Climate-Creation-Bellingham/p/148629130\nEvent Website: https://www.mosaicvoices.org/events\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/MichaelMeadeMosaic\nPodcast: https://www.mosaicvoices.org/podcast\nVideo: https://www.youtube.com/user/mosaicvoices/videos

SUMMARY:Henry Klein Exhibit to Focus on PNW Residentail Design through the Decades
DESCRIPTION:MOUNT VERNON\, WASHINGTON\, October 2019 — HKP Architects is thrilled to announce that the Historical Museum of Skagit County will be presenting an exhibit of residential design works by regionally noted architect Henry Klein (1920-2013). The exhibit\, entitled Henry Klein Homes: Light\, Form and Materiality Through the Decades\, will open November 22\, 2019\, and run through March of 2020. \nHenry Klein’s work spans five decades from the mid-1950’s until his retirement from the practice in the early 2000’s. Guiding themes of natural light\, indoor/outdoor connections\, natural materials\, gracious overhangs and beautiful screening weave through every decade. The exhibit also highlights some of the clients\, contractors\, other design professionals who worked with Henry\, and some of the homeowners who live in his houses today. \n“When the work is organized by decade\, it is wonderful to see the consistency of expression as well as the evolution of Henry’s designs\,” said Julie Blazek\, Partner at HKP Architects. \nThis is an opportunity for the public and design professionals to see a rare curated collection of photographs of the design and construction of Henry Klein’s most notable homes. Klein’s process of design is also illuminated through working drawings\, hand sketches\, and physical models. \n“The timelessness of Henry’s designs\, integration of nature\, and the honesty in the expression of materials speak not only to Henry’s formidable design skills but also to his gentle and honest nature\,” said Brian Poppe\, Partner at HKP Architects.

SUMMARY:High Pulp: Juicyfruit TOUR + Shimmertraps at The Firefly
DESCRIPTION:======== HIGH PULP ========\nBorn out of a basement in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood\, High Pulp’s music effortlessly draws from diverse influences. The lineup-fluid collective transmutes from lock-tight trio to expansive ensemble as they meander from jazz to funk to hip-hop to punk\, melding it all to create something distinctly avant-garde. \nIn January of 2018\, the band entered the studio to record their debut album Bad Juice. The record takes the listener along on a spirited journey of fearless exploration\, all the while inducing subconscious head-bobbing. \nNow\, High Pulp is feverishly producing their next wave of releases. The instrumental single “Midnight Bistro” released this summer\, and the full Light Fix EP – which brings vocalists into High Pulp’s extended musical family for the first time – is set to debut in the fall.
