SUMMARY:Phantom of the Opera
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, October 10 at 7:00 p.m.\, the Concrete Theatre invites you to travel back in time—exactly 100 years—to the night when The Phantom of the Opera first appeared on our screen. Released in 1925\, and shown in this very Theatre that same year\, this silent masterpiece still casts its eerie spell a century later.\nStarring the incomparable Lon Chaney\, “the man of a thousand faces\,” the film shocked audiences with his now-legendary transformation into the Phantom\, a figure as tragic as he is terrifying. With lavish sets\, a cast of thousands\, and a story that unfolds in the shadows of the Paris Opera House\, The Phantom of the Opera helped define horror cinema and continues to mesmerize to this day.\nThis isn’t just a movie night—it’s a piece of living history in the place where it first haunted audiences in 1925. Step into the past\, feel the chill of the Phantom’s presence\, and celebrate 100 years of movie magic\, mystery\, and madness here at the historic Concrete Theatre.\nArrive by 6:30 to be part of the pre-movie discussion. What was it like to live in Concrete when this movie played here in 1925? Has this horror film contributed to the haunting of the Concrete Theatre? Let us tell you a few stories about what we’ve seen and heard here!\nEach guest receives free “Phantom Popcorn”—a mysterious mix of our classic theater popcorn\, sweet M&Ms\, and ghostly mini marshmallows. Each bite conjures up the magic and mischief of the century-old silent classic.

SUMMARY:BEFORE US
DESCRIPTION:BEFORE US\, Kuntz and Company’s newest work\, is a dance theatre piece exploring how we navigate\, manage\, and survive what is to come with grace and humility. Not as merely spectators of our lives\, the performers dive into images of what came before and what is coming next while engaging in a journey across the stage. Ian Bivins\, Cara Congelli\, Atlas Hovdesven\, Ingrid Hurlen\, and Pam Kuntz have discovered community\, relationships\, and humor are at the core of both the stories shared and their creative process. With Richard Scholtz’s recordings of sounds of the world adding layers of humanity to the score\, BEFORE US is a playful release of frustrations and fears while traveling into a glorious win…the win we all really need right now. \nAt The Firehouse Arts and Events Center October 9\, 10 @ 7:30 and Oct 11\, 12 @ 5:00.

SUMMARY:"Hot Hardy Plants for Super Shady Gardens"
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to welcome Heronswood Garden’s Director\, Dr. Ross Bayton\, for a talk on the best that shade gardening has to offer. He’s the author of several books on horticulture\, including New Trees: Introductions to Cultivation (with John Grimshaw)\, Plant Families: A Guide for Gardeners and Botanists (with Simon Maugham)\, and most recently The Gardener’s Botanical: An Encyclopedia of Latin Plant Names. SUMMARY:Untethered Odyssey opening reception
DESCRIPTION:October 3 – November 1st\nOpening Reception: October 3\, 6pm-9pm\n1213 Cornwall Ave\, Bellingham\, WA 98225 \nUntethered Odyssey invites viewers on a journey through diverse artistic landscapes where meticulous craft meets unbounded imagination. This compelling group exhibition celebrates the courage to venture beyond familiar territories\, exploring the delicate balance between control and spontaneity across four distinctive artistic voices. \nThe exhibition features Liz Cunningham’s exquisite beaded jewelry\, lovingly constructed one tiny bead at a time into contemporary wearable sculptures; Jeana Esser-Lang’s bold and whimsical compositions that take fearless liberties with color and space; Libby Sullivan’s mixed media collages where mysterious women encounter otherworldly powers amid fragments of found materials; and Rock Morris’s philosophy of “perfect imperfection\,” creating works of intense layering and strong lines that emerge from his creative subconscious to embody nature’s raw beauty. \nAllied Arts is a non-profit gallery\, all proceeds from sales go towards supporting the arts in our community. \nFor more information visit www.alliedarts.org\, call us at 360-676-8548 or email us at gallery@alliedarts.org.
