DESCRIPTION:A fusion of diverse influences\, including cabaret\, spaghetti Westerns\, norteño\, punk\, and the immigrant dance music of Eastern Europe\, Colorado-based quartet DeVotchKa emerged as unlikely indie heroes in the mid-2000s infusing modern indie music with a global flavor. Formed in Denver by multi-instrumentalists Nick Urata (vocals\, guitar\, trumpet)\, Tom Hagerman (violin\, accordion)\, Jeanie Schroder (sousaphone\, bass)\, and percussionist Shawn King\, DeVotchKa found widespread success in 2006 with their Grammy-nominated soundtrack to the hit indie film\, Little Miss Sunshine. \nEmbarking on another world tour\, DeVotchKa collaborated with the Colorado Symphony on the 2012 concert album\, Live with the Colorado Symphony. Over the next several years\, Urata focused on his own film composition career\, scoring movies like Crazy Stupid Love\, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot\, Paddington\, and the Netflix series\, A Series of Unfortunate Events. Meanwhile\, DeVotchKa regrouped for a lengthy recording session\, eventually returning in 2018 with their sixth album\, This Night Falls Forever\, via Concord Records.

DESCRIPTION:Free Harmony is Chuck Dingée and Sharon Mayson! Their beautiful vocals are what make Free Harmony unique and a treat to listen to. They started singing together in 2017 and have been busy entertaining people in the Northwest ever since. \nA founding member of Bellingham’s popular classic rock band The Walrus\, Chuck has been singing and playing in the area for over 40 years.  He has an eclectic repertoire of hundreds of songs from Gershwin to Beatles to Pink Floyd. \nHaving sung all her life\, Sharon has an incredibly smooth voice and performs in local Northwest bands including Pacific Twang. \nTogether they play an entertaining mix of originals and songs ranging from the 60s to present\, by artists like Simon & Garfunkel\, The Beatles\, Emmylou Harris\, John Denver\, Indigo Girls\, The Police\, Pink Floyd\, Eagles\, Bonnie Raitt\, and many others. In March 2019\, Free Harmony was opening act for the band America at the Tulalip and Legends Casinos in Washington state. \nFolk Club shows happen on the first and third Sundays of every month and are all ages! In “Adumu” African Choreographer Fernando Anuang’A creates a dance show drawing on contemporary dance and Maasai tradition\, “Dance for Change” shows us a dance scene emerging in Dzaleka refugee camp in Malawi and “Why I Dance” is a documentary following a group of dancers in Kigali\, Rwanda where we gain insight into everyday life in Rwanda and witness these young dancers’ passion and commitment to dance.
