SUMMARY:Martha Scanlan & Jon Neufeld
DESCRIPTION:Martha Scanlan and Jon Neufeld’s unique alchemy on stage started when they first played together at Portland’s Indie-roots festival Pickathon ten years ago. It was an immediate musical connection and friendship that has only deepened with time and miles spent touring venues and festivals nationwide. It is that unique alchemy\, that sense of adventure and improvisation on stage and in the studio\, that characterizes their work together and has earned them a loyal following worldwide. \nThey have shared the stage and collaborated with artists as diverse as Levon Helm\, Jim James\, Emmy Lou Harris and Peter Buck\, and played festivals from Merlefest to Bonnaroo. When so much began to shift due to the pandemic and live shows ground to a halt\, what began as a loose plan to work on a new record became a musical journey of its own – a necessary refuge. The result was a collaborative project in motion\, an unfolding story. Their album\, Last Stars First Light\, debuted last year on Jealous Butcher Records.

SUMMARY:The Dancing Man - Peg Leg Bates
DESCRIPTION:From the Film Series “Documenting Grace\,” Kuntz and Company presents “The Dancing Man – Peg Leg Bates” on February 11th at 3:00. \n“The Dancing Man-Peg Leg Bates” brings to the screen the remarkable story of the legendary tap dancer and entrepreneur\, Clayton “Peg Leg” who broke down barriers for Black Americans and all people with disabilities. The arc of Bates’ epic career stretches from Southern minstrel shows to the golden age of television when he entered America’s living rooms as a regular on the Ed Sullivan Show. \nThe enormous impact of Peg Leg Bates on Black culture\, and by extension American culture\, is summed up by Ruth Brown\, “In those days\, there were two great things for Black people. One was that Peg Leg Bates was going to be on television and the other was that Joe Louis was going to fight.” \nA Film By Dave Davidson

SUMMARY:Mark Hummel's Blues Harmonica Blowout
DESCRIPTION:Headliner Lee Oskar is the owner of the eponymous harmonica company and the original harmonica player for the band War. War started in 1968 with singer Eric Burdon and scored huge top ten hits like “Why Can’t We Be Friends\,” “The Cisco Kid\,” “The World Is A Ghetto\,” “Slippin’ Into Darkness” and “Low Rider” – and Lee’s harmonica was a trademark of their sound. \nGuitar and harp player Kenny Neal is from Louisiana blues royalty\, being the son of Swamp Blues harp blower Raful Neal\, who taught every offspring to play blues instruments. Kenny first played bass with Buddy Guy & Junior Wells. Kenny was a member of Downchild while living in Canada. Neal also starred on Broadway in Mulebone. Neal has been nominated for Grammies five times and has won multiple Blues Music Awards. \nJason Ricci is the two-time winner of the Blues Music Awards for best harmonica and is a world wide influence to other harp blowers — his virtuoso chops are mind-bending thanks to a technique called “over blowing.” \nChris Cain is an Alligator Recording artist and multi-instrumentalist on guitar\, keys\, sax and vocals. Cain is a seven-time BMA nominee. Chris’s guitar fans include Robben Ford\, Joe Bonamassa\, and the late B.B. King and Albert King. \nMark Hummel is a Grammy-nominated two-time BMA award winning Harmonica master\, singer\, and bandleader — and the organizer of Harmonica Blowouts – who has been playing since 1970 and has been touring the world since 1985. Hummel started the Blowouts in 1990\, which have featured Huey Lewis\, Charlie Musselwhite\, John Mayall\, James Cotton\, Magic Dick\, Lazy Lester\, Carey Bell\, Kim Wilson\, Snooky Pryor\, Billy Boy Arnold\, Jerry Portnoy\, and everyone else!! \nOpening the show is Andrew Alli\, a fabulous Richmond\, Virginia harp phenom. Bob Welsh (The Fabulous Thunderbirds)\, Randy Bermudes\, and June Core (Charlie Musselwhite rhythm section) also are on the tour.
