SUMMARY:Make.Shift March 2020 Art Walk: “And in That Moment”
DESCRIPTION:For the month of March Make.Shift Gallery would like to present “And in That Moment: Works by Aunna Moriarty.” We will be showcasing Moriarty’s photography in a solo show exhibit that defines the artistic process. Moriarty resides in Seattle\, Washington and is a photographer and model. Her work has a sharp focus on fashion and performance used as a means to investigate the human focus.\nThe Artist emphasizes that this specific project\, “And in that moment\,” is a way to materialize her distorted experiences of people\, places\, colors\, and time. This project is not meant to be a literal translation of dreamland as there are often missing pieces and interruptions throughout the night but rather\, it seizes the lingering emotions and disturbances released from these ephemeral moments. Armed with a deep curiosity of textiles\, color theory\, lighting\, and a love affair with vintage wear\, she is able to capture the true beauty of the feminine archetype. Moriarty is a graduate of the BFA program at Seattle University in photography and has said that she is passionate about education in the arts.\nThe opening will be on Art Walk Friday\, March 6th from 6-10pm. For more information about the Art Walk or Make.Shift please visit our website at makeshiftproject.com or contact Gallery Director\, Gabrielle Olson\, at gallery@makeshiftproject.com.\nAbout Make.shift: Make.Shift Art Space is a 501 ©3 nonprofit DIY venue dedicated to providing a space for all-ages art and music in Bellingham. The 8\,000-square-foot space includes 21 studios\, an award-winning gallery\, a live music performance space and a low-power radio station KZAX 94.9. We are an all-ages space dedicated to a policy of no booze\, no drugs\, no jerks.\nAccessibility Information: Make.Shift strives to create a safe and inviting space for all to enjoy and utilize. There are two ramps at Make.Shift: one at the front door that provides access to the gallery\, office\, upstairs studios\, and bathrooms. All of these doorways are 3’ wide. The other leads to the basement and provides access to the stage and main concert area. This doorway is 3’ 5”. \nMake.Shift February Art Walk\nWHAT: “And in That Moment”\nWHEN: Friday\, March 6th\, 2020 6-10PM\nWHERE: Make.Shift Art Space 306 Flora St. in downtown Bellingham\nCOST: Free!\nCONTACT: Gabrielle Olson gallery@makeshiftproject.com\nIMAGES:\nFACEBOOK: facebook.com/makeshiftproject\nINSTAGRAM: @make.shiftartspace\nKILL DATE: Saturday\, March 28th\, 2020

SUMMARY:BAAY Presents: The Hobbit
DESCRIPTION:Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth presents The Hobbit on February 28 – March 1 and March 6-8 at the BAAY Theatre. It’s unusual for a modern work to become a classic so quickly\, but Tolkien’s “ring” stories\, which began with The Hobbit\, are in this very special category. They stir the imagination of everyone they touch. Bilbo\, one of the most conservative of all Hobbits\, is asked to leave his large\, roomy\, and very dry home in order to set off as chief robber in an attempt to recover an important treasure. BAAY’s production of The Hobbit is performed by a delightful cast of students ages 9-12! Tickets and more information at baay.org.

SUMMARY:Journey Through the Tarot
DESCRIPTION:For the first time ever! Bellingham local and professional tarot reader Charles Crooks\, is offering a course teaching his easiest methods and practices of understanding the tarot.\nJoin Charles as he leads this in-depth 3 week long tarot workshop. Running Monday evenings February 24\, March 2\, and March 9\, 7-9:30pm\, prepare to dive deep to learn the subtle and major energies of the tarot. Whether this is your first time using a deck or maybe you’ve been reading for years\, the workshop aims to give new insight\, clarity\, and direction into the tarot.\nThe class is not about routine memorization of the cards. You will learn to tap into your intuition\, the still quiet voice inside of everyone\, that has answers. When tarot is used with a combination of knowledge and intuition\, it reflects aspects of a situation or question that is often surprisingly insightful.\nThis class is BYOD! (Bring your own deck) The recommended deck is the Rider Waite Smith deck\, however\, you may use anything that has similar imagery.\nPlease note\, there are only 6 spots available for this course!\nClass is held at the Griggs Office Supply building downtown Bellingham\, located at 115 Unity St. #202.\nClass Outline:\nFebruary 24: The Major Arcana\nThe major arcana are the first 22 cards of a tarot deck that describe the journey of the Fool. Understanding the archetypes he meets on his journey helps us grasp the bigger energies in life\, as well as the harder lessons. The journey of the Fool isn’t always easy\, but it’s life changing if you embrace it. .\nMarch 2: The Minor Arcana and Court Cards\nThe minor and court cards represent the smaller energies\, celebrations\, and challenges we encounter on a daily level. The court cards introduce us to personalities and qualities within other people and ourselves.\nMarch 9: Reading Synthesis (Putting it all together)\nNow that you know what’s in a tarot deck\, how do you put it all together? Charles always says\, “A sign of a good reader is not how well someone knows the cards individually\, but how they weave the cards together to tell a complete story.” Learn helpful tips to make you a stronger reader without relying on a guidebook. You will also try your hand in creating your own spread\, and take home ones that Charles uses all the time!\nLearning the tarot does not have to be difficult. When we understand the patterns within the cards\, reading for yourself and/or others becomes fun and effortless. Tarot has proven over and over again to be one of the best sources of reflection in Charles’ life to this day. When we are willing to engage with it\, challenge ourselves\, and open our hearts to it\, tarot will lay out a wealth of information and advice.\nAre you ready to see yourself through a different lens?
