SUMMARY:Northwest Mushroomers Association Annual Wild Mushroom Show
DESCRIPTION:On October 22nd\, 2023\, after a four-year hiatus\, the Northwest Mushroomers Association is hosting their 31st Annual Wild Mushroom Show at the Viking Union at WWU from 11:00am to 5:00pm. Admission is $10 for adults\, $7 for students and seniors\, $5 for NMA members\, and free for children under 12! Over 300 varieties of mushrooms grow in our area and many will be on display\, identified to genus and species\, with edibility recommendations. The displays will be fresh\, colorful\, and amazing. Along with mushroom-related book sales\, a children’s table\, a table with information about dyeing fibers with mushrooms\, local vendors\, and three different presentations by professional mycologists in an adjacent meeting space\, (and so much more!)\, you can also bring in a mushroom or two for our IDers to identify for you and answer questions you might have. Mushroom club membership\, should you choose to join us\, will allow you to register for mushroom ID classes and attend forays and meetings in the coming year. Knowing which mushroom one is searching for\, and differentiating fungi can be confusing. Yet there is a path through this complex world of fungi. Come by to observe and learn about the incredible diversity of PNW mushrooms that might even be growing right in your backyard. We look forward to meeting you! SUMMARY:25th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. Human Rights Conference
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at the 25th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. Human Rights Conference in January. Since its inception in 1999\, thousands of community members have come together to renew their commitment to the ideals of peace\, justice\, and collective liberation that Dr. King held so dear. Dr. King was not alone in his fight for freedom\, working with many other great leaders and community members\, just as we must work together to build the beloved community he dreamed of. For the past 25 years\, the Dr. King Conference has curated spaces for Whatcom County to learn\, grow\, and connect together\, laying a foundation for dismantling white supremacy and creating a just and equitable world where everyone thrives. \nThe title of the 2023 conference is “From Divine Dissatisfaction to Joyful Liberation: How Do We Co-Create a Beloved Whatcom County?” This theme is taken from Dr. King’s sermon “Where Do We Go From Here?”\, which he gave at the annual convention of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Atlanta\, Georgia on August 16\, 1967. Dr. King urges us to “go out with a divine dissatisfaction” to work for justice. shall be crushed by the battering rams of the forces of justice. Let us be dissatisfied until those who live on the outskirts of hope are brought into the metropolis of daily security. Let us be dissatisfied until slums are cast into the junk heaps of history\, and every family will live in a decent\, sanitary home.” \nHere’s the schedule for this year’s events:\n• Thursday evening\, 1/12: We’ll start off with Poetry Night\, inspired by the words of bell hooks and readings by local poets. Offered both in-person and live-streamed. (More info soon!)\n• Friday evening\, 1/13: Dr. Sislena Ledbetter will emcee the Keynote event\, which features an opening ceremony led by Rev. Kelle Brown\, tri-chair and theomusicologist for the Washington Poor People’s Campaign. For the keynote\, we are excited and honored to have intersectional environmentalist thought leader Emily Pinckney join us for a live-streamed conversation on Environmental Justice\, Intersectionality\, and Community Centered Co-creation\, facilitated by local environmental advocate Destiny Dunbar.\n• Saturday\, 1/14 all day: We will offer a full day of online workshops offered via Zoom again this year. \nConference website: https://whrtf.org/revdrking/ \nFor more information: email the 2023 Conference planning committee at whatcomhrtf@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Chaos\, Climate and Creation: an evening with Michael Meade
DESCRIPTION:Join renowned author\, mythologist and storyteller Michael Meade for an evening of myths of renewal\, tales of transformation\, and a resounding call to find unity and wholeness in this time of conflict and confusion. \nAs the chaos in the world increases\, most ideas of the future become fatalistic. Yet\, the situation only seems “hopeless” when viewed from the narrow logic of a collapsing world view. Old ways of seeing the world are blocking more vital paths of imagination\, vision and healing. \nThe point is not simply evolution or progress\, rather there needs to be a collective rite of passage that transforms our world view. Transformation is required to move us from despair and overwhelm to awakening and imagination. We are either on the way to transformation or on the road to greater tragedy. \nThe agony of the earth calls for each of us to defeat the growing alienation and isolation of life in order to become more human and be more present. The issue is not the pretension of “saving the planet\,” but rather finding deeper ways of serving the earth. \nThis world\, despite all its troubles\, remains a place of ongoing creation. Yet\, creation can only work through the souls of those alive at a given time. What we learn from mythic stories and imagination is how our human nature can make us part of the ground of being and the vital pulse of the living world. \n“Climate change and eco-degradation can become the context in which the core values of humanity become redeemed rather than lost.” – Michael Meade \nTICKETS:\n$15 General / $10 Student\nDoors open at 6:30 pm \nDATE:\nThursday\, December 5\, 2019\n7:00 – 9:00 pm \nLOCATION:\nBellingham Unitarian Fellowship\n1207 Ellsworth St.\nBellingham\, WA 98225 \nCONTACT INFO:\nFor more information see our web links or contact Mosaic Multicultural Foundation at: info@mosaicvoices.org or 206-935-3665. \nLINKS:\nTicket link: https://www.mosaicvoices.org/shop/#!/Chaos-Climate-Creation-Bellingham/p/148629130\nEvent Website: https://www.mosaicvoices.org/events\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/MichaelMeadeMosaic\nPodcast: https://www.mosaicvoices.org/podcast\nVideo: https://www.youtube.com/user/mosaicvoices/videos
