DESCRIPTION:Birchwood Garden Club member\, Ira Penn\, will be giving a presentation on hybridizing. Ira has been gardening for 72 years and is an experienced hybridizer. At the peak of his hybridizing efforts he was growing 5\,000 seedlings in his Nashville\, Tennessee garden. \nNow you can find out where new flowers and vegetables come from. Although seemingly a magical process requiring vast amounts of esoteric knowledge\, Ira says it’s not that difficult. With some basic information (and lots of patience)\, you can be a hybridizer. Come join us for a most interesting and informative presentation. As always\, friends are welcome! \nThe Birchwood Garden Club was chartered in 1931. Birchwood Garden Club membership is open to anyone in Whatcom or Skagit County. We will have membership details at our meetings\, so be sure and pick up a brochure and join! DESCRIPTION:Birchwood Garden Club’s 30th annual plant sale will be held on Saturday\, May 6th from 9 AM until noon in the lower level conference room of the Bellingham Public Library. We will have perennials\, annuals\, veggie starts\, indoor plants\, pots\, books and choice selections from member’s gardens and more! Cash or check only please. Come early for best selection! \nProceeds from the sale benefit numerous community organizations including maintenance of the Whatcom Museum and Bellingham Public Library gardens and the Cornwall Rose Garden along with donations of gardening literature for children and adults at the library.
