SUMMARY:The Blue Room Presents | Atomic Affair\, New Age Healers\, Ceras
DESCRIPTION:Location: The Blue Room \nDoor Time: 7pm \nStart Time: 8pm \nDescription:\nThe Blue Room is excited to welcome back Atomic Affair with Seattle Shoegaze group New Age Healers and Bellingham group Ceras! \nNew Age Healers: New Age Healers began in 2015 as a (mostly) solo project by radio producer\, guitarist and singer\, Owen Murphy with the hope of making great art\, building incredible friendships and sharing uplifting experiences – and it worked. After two self produced and published albums (2016’s Ghosts and 2017’s Where The Tragic Happens)\, the band expanded to a guitar focused quartet for Debris (2019) with the lineup changing and solidifying during the COVID lockdown for Demolition Stories (2022) and their upcoming EP in 2024. \nNow a hardened quintet of Owen Murphy\, guitarist Jeramy Koepping (Voyager One\, Grand Hallway)\, bass player Allen Murray (Modern Athletics\, The Drop)\, drummer Adam LeVasseur (Feed) and keyboard player Farkhad Saidmuratov (Kotlovan)\, the band collaborates with Murphy’s prolific songwriting to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

SUMMARY:Martha Scanlan & Jon Neufeld
DESCRIPTION:Martha Scanlan and Jon Neufeld’s unique alchemy on stage started when they first played together at Portland’s Indie-roots festival Pickathon ten years ago. It was an immediate musical connection and friendship that has only deepened with time and miles spent touring venues and festivals nationwide. It is that unique alchemy\, that sense of adventure and improvisation on stage and in the studio\, that characterizes their work together and has earned them a loyal following worldwide. \nThey have shared the stage and collaborated with artists as diverse as Levon Helm\, Jim James\, Emmy Lou Harris and Peter Buck\, and played festivals from Merlefest to Bonnaroo. When so much began to shift due to the pandemic and live shows ground to a halt\, what began as a loose plan to work on a new record became a musical journey of its own – a necessary refuge. The result was a collaborative project in motion\, an unfolding story. Their album\, Last Stars First Light\, debuted last year on Jealous Butcher Records.

SUMMARY:Mark Hummel's Blues Harmonica Blowout
DESCRIPTION:Headliner Lee Oskar is the owner of the eponymous harmonica company and the original harmonica player for the band War. War started in 1968 with singer Eric Burdon and scored huge top ten hits like “Why Can’t We Be Friends\,” “The Cisco Kid\,” “The World Is A Ghetto\,” “Slippin’ Into Darkness” and “Low Rider” – and Lee’s harmonica was a trademark of their sound. \nGuitar and harp player Kenny Neal is from Louisiana blues royalty\, being the son of Swamp Blues harp blower Raful Neal\, who taught every offspring to play blues instruments. Kenny first played bass with Buddy Guy & Junior Wells. Kenny was a member of Downchild while living in Canada. Neal also starred on Broadway in Mulebone. Neal has been nominated for Grammies five times and has won multiple Blues Music Awards. \nJason Ricci is the two-time winner of the Blues Music Awards for best harmonica and is a world wide influence to other harp blowers — his virtuoso chops are mind-bending thanks to a technique called “over blowing.” \nChris Cain is an Alligator Recording artist and multi-instrumentalist on guitar\, keys\, sax and vocals. Cain is a seven-time BMA nominee. Chris’s guitar fans include Robben Ford\, Joe Bonamassa\, and the late B.B. King and Albert King. \nMark Hummel is a Grammy-nominated two-time BMA award winning Harmonica master\, singer\, and bandleader — and the organizer of Harmonica Blowouts – who has been playing since 1970 and has been touring the world since 1985. Hummel started the Blowouts in 1990\, which have featured Huey Lewis\, Charlie Musselwhite\, John Mayall\, James Cotton\, Magic Dick\, Lazy Lester\, Carey Bell\, Kim Wilson\, Snooky Pryor\, Billy Boy Arnold\, Jerry Portnoy\, and everyone else!! \nOpening the show is Andrew Alli\, a fabulous Richmond\, Virginia harp phenom. Bob Welsh (The Fabulous Thunderbirds)\, Randy Bermudes\, and June Core (Charlie Musselwhite rhythm section) also are on the tour.

SUMMARY:Mary Poppins
DESCRIPTION:Join us in 1910 England as Bert\, the Jack of All Trades\, introduces us to the troubled Banks family. Young siblings Jane and Michael Banks have sent many a nanny packing before the “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. \nUsing a combination of magic and common sense\, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures\, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. SUMMARY:DeVotchKa
DESCRIPTION:A fusion of diverse influences\, including cabaret\, spaghetti Westerns\, norteño\, punk\, and the immigrant dance music of Eastern Europe\, Colorado-based quartet DeVotchKa emerged as unlikely indie heroes in the mid-2000s infusing modern indie music with a global flavor. Formed in Denver by multi-instrumentalists Nick Urata (vocals\, guitar\, trumpet)\, Tom Hagerman (violin\, accordion)\, Jeanie Schroder (sousaphone\, bass)\, and percussionist Shawn King\, DeVotchKa found widespread success in 2006 with their Grammy-nominated soundtrack to the hit indie film\, Little Miss Sunshine. \nEmbarking on another world tour\, DeVotchKa collaborated with the Colorado Symphony on the 2012 concert album\, Live with the Colorado Symphony. Over the next several years\, Urata focused on his own film composition career\, scoring movies like Crazy Stupid Love\, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot\, Paddington\, and the Netflix series\, A Series of Unfortunate Events. Meanwhile\, DeVotchKa regrouped for a lengthy recording session\, eventually returning in 2018 with their sixth album\, This Night Falls Forever\, via Concord Records.

SUMMARY:History of Skagit Punk
DESCRIPTION:Listen up\, crusties\, cavers\, wavers\, skaters\, hardcore kids\, and anarchists: This is your story. \nSkagit Valley music legend Shane Gildnes has been part of the Northwest punk scene for decades\, most notably as the driving force behind both Stagnant Water and Fanny Alger. Now\, finally\, the Lincoln has caught up with him\, and he’s hitting our stage with both of these bands for a night of noisy music interspersed with Shane’s stories of Skagit’s punk rock scene from ever since it was a thing — when we were all smaller and our hair was weirder. \nEveryone is welcome! Learn about Mount Vernon’s counter-culture legacy and party like it’s 1989. \nRemember: if it’s too loud\, you’re just not deaf enough yet.
