SUMMARY:Che Apalache
DESCRIPTION:This blend of Appalachian and Latin music took me completely off guard and won me over instantly.\nThis is a band to watch!— Béla Fleck \nChe Apalache is a four-man string band based in Buenos Aires with members from Argentina\, Mexico\, and the United States. The group’s founder is Joe Troop (fiddle)\, a North Carolinian multi-instrumentalist\, singer-songwriter\, and composer who moved to Argentina in 2010. While patiently carving out a niche in the local music scene\, Joe taught bluegrass and old-time for a living. That’s how he met Pau Barjau (banjo)\, Franco Martino (guitar) and Martin Bobrik (mandolin)\, his most dedicated students. They quickly became picking buddies and in 2013 decided to hit the stage.

SUMMARY:Kulshan Chorus Presents: Carmina Burana
DESCRIPTION:Kulshan Chorus\, Cantabile Chamber Choir\, Kulshan Youth Choir\, Sno-King Community Chorale\, and orchestra join forces under the artistic direction of Dustin Willets to perform Carl Orff’s masterpiece cantata\, Carmina Burana. Orff selected twenty-four poems from the medieval collection\, Carmina Burana\, covering a variety of familiar topics: the fickleness of fortune and wealth\, the ephemeral nature of life\, the joy of the return of Spring\, and the pleasures and perils of drinking\, gluttony\, gambling\, and lust. Together these poems and music describe activities along the great “wheel of life” or “wheel of fortune.” As the wheel spins\, we may be uplifted in the world. But just as easily\, the wheel of life may crush us. The moral is that no one of us is greater than any other\, no matter their status. We should treat one another as equals\, each struggling for purpose and meaning in the great wheel that is life. We belong to each other. \nTickets ranging from $22-35\, with select discounts available.\nPurchase tickets at https://bit.ly/2HAIE9g

SUMMARY:Everett Philharmonic Orchestra Listener’s Choice Concert
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Everett Philharmonic Orchestra for our season finale Sunday\, May 1 at 3pm in the Everett Civic Auditorium when Dr. Paul-Elliot Cobbs conducts two of Aaron Copland’s most popular works: Fanfare for the Common Man and Appalachian Spring\, as well as additional works by Beethoven and American composer Wayne Barlow. This concert\, graciously sponsored by Northwest LED Lighting\, is our annual selection of audience favorites in the “Listener’s Choice” concert. \nAt the outset of the concert\, Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man gives a spine-tingling affirmation of the strength of the “Common Man” – much in evidence in our lives in these turbulent times. His beloved Appalachian Spring is a more comforting and joy-filled reminder of happy seasons that lie ahead of us. After intermission the Everett Phil’s principal oboist Laurie Swanson will be featured in American composer Wayne Barlow’s The Winter’s Passed. Barlow’s most enduring work is a neoclassical fantasy based on southern folk tunes inspired by a verse from the Songs of Solomon. We’ll end the afternoon and close out our season with Beethoven’s bright and cheery Symphony No. 6. In this pastoral symphony\, we’ll join Beethoven on a walk in the countryside outside Vienna to a babbling brook and merry gathering\, briefly interrupted by a thunderstorm before enjoying a shepherd’s song played in thanks for the warm sun of spring. Tickets on sale now for $10 – 25. Mask required for everyone in attendance. Please check our website for the most up-to-date COVID policies.
