DESCRIPTION:Reclaiming the once-pejorative term “nerd” to mean anyone who obsesses over created content\, we’re taking a glimpse into the artistic side of nerd culture and our innate desire to expand upon the creative content we love. With artwork ranging from literary illustration to comics to game design\, this exhibit celebrates the irrepressible creativity and playfulness of nerd culture in the Northwest. SUMMARY:Youth Artist Exhibiton
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Syre launches its first Whatcom County Youth Artist Exhibition\, featuring artists in Grades 6 through 13. \nA jury of 5 people\, including David Syre’s art curator\, Ana Palacio\, has nominated three winners from a large range of applications. 6 other special nominees will be shown at the final exhibition that will officially open on December 7th\, 2019 and stay open through February 27th\, 2020. \n“The selection process was not easy and we were all very impressed by the visual translation of the theme ‘Wishes and Dreams’. All applicants have shown their full commitment to investigate the topic and to represent it through different drawing and painting techniques\,” referred the jury committee. \n‘Wishes and Dreams’ was meant to inspire the students to envision their future\, to express their inner thoughts\, and to represent a world they would like to live in. The jury based their decisions not only on the technical execution but also on the creative rendering of the theme\, the artist’s statements\, and their motivations to participate in this call. \nThe winning artists are Kayla Nygren\, WWU (1st. Place) Emma Vande Voort\, Lynden Christian High School (2nd place)\, Jerusalem Sintayejhu\, Blaine High School (3rd place). The special nominees are: \nCharlie “Chipper” Goggin – Bellingham High School\nKate Hansen – Lynden Christian High School\nElla Keizer – Horizon Middle School\nAudrey Miller – Horizon Middle School\nChance Van Montgem – Blaine High School\nElizabeth West – Bellingham High School \nThe opening reception will take place on December 7th\, 2019 from 3-5 pm. Light refreshments will be served.
