It’s officially summer, which means it’s time to rock on. What better way to celebrate local businesses then with a countywide rock hunt?
Independence Day may be over, but Independent (Business) month is just beginning. For all of July, be on the lookout for dozens of red, navy, and light blue painted rocks hiding out in Whatcom County parks. If you spot one, pull out your phone and take a photo.
Post the photo on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #thinklocalrocks, and you’ll get a $20 gift card to one of the 12 (and counting) participating local businesses. (Make sure to leave the rock for others to find.)
“The goal of the rock hunt is to encourage our community to support local businesses,” says Amy Vergillo, Sustainable Connections’ Communications Manager. “Winning a gift card to a favorite local business, or to a business you haven’t been to before is exciting and helps people remember that our community is full of amazing locally owned businesses.”
This year’s rock hunt is particularly timely, with COVID-19 putting many local businesses in jeopardy.
“It is imperative that we support [local businesses] in any way we can,” Vergillo says.
